Our story

More than a tournament. A community built around competition.

Above the Dirt Sports was founded on a simple belief: competition shouldn't stop simply because we get older.

What started as a vision to create a better experience for senior softball players has grown into a nonprofit organization dedicated to building community, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging lifelong activity, and creating organized sporting opportunities for adults and seniors.

We exist to bring people together through competition, friendship, and purpose.

Why we started

Built different. Built for you.

Above the Dirt Sports was founded by Robert Biondo and Tim Culyer after years of playing competitive softball. They saw the need for something better — more organized, more consistent, and more focused on the player experience.

Our goal was never just to run tournaments. It was to create a place where athletes, families, and communities could come together to compete, have fun, and create lasting memories.

  • Consistency
  • Fair competition
  • Organized communication
  • Respect for players
  • A welcoming community
  • An experience to trust

Staying active changes lives

A lifetime of play

Senior athlete on the field

For Robert Biondo, sports have always been about more than competition. After a lifetime of baseball, softball, and over 20 years of military service in the United States Navy, one lesson has remained constant: people who stay active stay connected.

We have athletes in their 70s and even 80s who continue to compete, stay healthy, and enjoy the friendships that sports create.

Remaining active is about health, confidence, friendships, and quality of life. That belief drives everything we do.

Competition keeps us moving, but community keeps us coming back.
